Homes in Southampton, Romsey, Eastleigh, Totton, and parts of the New Forest have been affected by problems at the Testwood water supply works preventing water from leaving the site. Southern Water apologised and said it was working hard to restore supplies, but warned the issue might continue until the weekend.

A new water treatment plant for Brighton and Hove is needed because of an increased risk of contamination, Southern Water has said. The company has applied to build a nitrate treatment plant building at its site in Lewes Road, Falmer. It received a notice from the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) after a small number of checks found unacceptably high nitrate levels at the Housedean borehole site in the Lewes Valley.

Severn Trent issued the warning over the weekend after high levels of the chemical were found in a reservoir near Castle Donington. United Utilities has apologised to people in Merseyside who have noticed changes in the taste and smell of their tap water as it issued an update. Last week, the ECHO reported that tap water in certain homes across the region had an "ashy" taste, with one man describing it as "tasting like mud".
The man who lives in the Orrell Park area, asked: "Anyone else's water tasting like mud? People are having problems all over the city".

Welsh Water released sewage into rivers, lakes and the sea around Wales for more than 916,000 hours last year, latest data shows. The water company recorded 105,943 spills in 2023, 93% of which were ranked "significant". The 68% rise in hours of spills compared with last year could be "directly linked to the wet weather", Welsh Water said.

Thames Water, London’s water supplier, is looking into west London’s water quality after concerns were raised about contamination of drinking water.
Dozens of people in the Beckenham area of south-east London reported being unwell with stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea over the weekend. Their symptoms mirrored similar reports coming out of Devon earlier this month, where unsafe drinking water led to more than 100 cases cryptosporidium, a parasite found in faeces which can cause gastrointestinal and respiratory illness.
